OH DEAR TRIANGULATION OF PHONE MASTS

Since mobile phone providers can locate a phone by its number, by listing the antennae that it was "pinging" at any given time, including when it is switched on but not in use, couldn't they be asked to do a "sort" by antenna-location? In other words "produce a listing of all contacts registered by the masts at/serving Failand and Long Ashton on the evening of 17 December"? Ideally, the location would be more precise than that, for example "all contacts made from Longwood Lane", but I doubt whether that would be possible.
